A 24-year-old Brazilian construction worker miraculously survived after a six foot metal bar fell from the fifth floor and impaled his skull.
Doctors at Rio de Janeiro's Miguel Couto Hospital successfully removed the iron bar from Eduardo Leite's skull during a five-hour-long operation, the Globo TV network reported.
Hospital spokesman Luiz Essinger told the TV station that Leite was lucid and showed no negative effects after the operation.
Essinger said "it really was a miracle" that Leite had survived the freak accident.
The large iron rod fell from the fifth floor of a building still under construction, pierced Leite's hard hat, entered the back of his skull and exited between his eyes.
Both the accident and operation took place on Wednesday.
