Psychologists claim that your sleeping habits may reveal the truth about your love life.
Researchers said that positions people take up when they're in deep sleep with their partner may reveal how they really feel about each other.
Psychologists explain that during sleep, people cannot fake body language, and because sleeping is the time when people are the most honest and vulnerable, your sleeping position can reveal a lot about your relationship with the person you are sleeping with.
"Couples fall into habitual ways of sleeping together that suits their personalities and personal preferences," relationship psychologist Corrine Sweet said in a statement. "These are negotiated at the outset, so if something changes in how they sleep together, this can reflect a change in their relationship and cause concern for the other partner."
"Individual psychological states also affect how we sleep and the positions we sleep in, so if we are stressed we may be irritable, and not want to snuggle up with our partner. Arguments often lead to sleeping wide apart, as people feel loathe to touch," Sweet said.
"Inevitably, once the first flush of lust wears off, with couples naked and entwined, it is more likely that the need for a good night's sleep predominates, so sleeping back to back becomes a favorable position in bed," she added.
A new UK survey, conducted by budget hotel chain Travelodge, found that 46 percent of people choose to turn away and sleep with their back to their lover every night. While sleeping with your back to your partner may seem cold and loveless psychologists say that couples who sleep with their backs facing each other may actually have a very intimate relationship.
The study involved 2,000 couples and found that 28 percent of participants sleep in the "Liberty" position. The Liberty position is when couples are sleeping back to back but not touching. Psychologists say that while lovers who sleep in this position feel connected, they are independent enough to sleep separately. The partners are probably used to each other and accept each other's sleeping habits.
About 18 percent of couples reported sleeping in the Cherish position, where they are sleeping back to back but touching each other. Couples who sleep in the Cherish position are comfortable, intimate and relaxed with each other. Psychologists say that this position is popular in new relationships.
The survey found that about 13 percent of couples sleeping with the males spooning the female on the inside. Psychologists say that this is a traditional sleeping position in which the man takes acts as a protector. Psychologists say that traditional spooning is the most common position adopted by couples in the first few years of their relationship, and that it shows both a strong sexuality and feeling of security in the relationship.
About 7 percent of couples in the survey report sleeping in the Pillow Talk position. This position comprises of the couple sleeping face to face, and represents an intimate need for one-on-one contact and conversation in bed.
Eight percent of couples report sleeping in the Lover's Knot, a position in which couples are sleeping face to face with their legs intertwined for 10 minutes and then the couple separates to sleep. Relationship experts say that this position indicates a loving independence between the two lovers. It is a sign of intimacy, love and sexual activity - even though the lovers eventually separate and sleep apart.
About 5 percent of couples sleep in another Female Spooning position in which the female is on the outside. This position indicates that the woman takes charge in the relationship and protects her man while he is sleeping.
Four percent of couples report sleeping in The Lovers position in which the legs of both lovers are intertwined all night. Psychologists say that this is position is a position for born romantics and demonstrates love's young dream when couples cannot beat to be separated as each moment together counts.
About 1 percent of couples sleep in The Romantic, Superwoman or Superman position.
The Romantic position is when a woman lies with her head and arm on the man's chest. Researchers say that this is an intimate pose that is favored after sex or by lovers in a new relationship, and it represents new or rekindled love.
The Superwoman position is when a woman lies in a starfish position with her man hanging off the bed. This position indicates that the bed is the woman's domain. She likes her space and her man takes the back seat and lets her have it.
The Superman position is like the Superwoman position but the roles are switched. The bed is the man's domain. This position indicates that the man likes to have his way and the female is happy to oblige.
