A British man has forgiven his friends and fiancée for staging a kidnapping that left him so terrorized he developed shingles.

In the ruse, Ollie McAninch was carjacked by 16 masked men armed with baseball bats — his closest friends, who love him — as his wife-to-be, Claire Hart, screamed in terror as smoke bombs erupted around the car. The men, some wearing camouflage fatigues and black hooded masks, dressed McAninch in a jumpsuit and then bound him with rope, stuffing him into the back of a van.

They then drove 100 miles in silence.

Only afterward did they reveal themselves to the groom, but the joke wasn't over yet. They forced McAninch to don a "mankini" — of the kind popularized by Sasha Boren Cohen in his film Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan — and bike another 10 miles to the site of the bachelor party they had planned for him.

"I've logged it for future vengeance," said McAninch, laughing off the event.

The man developed shingles as a result of the stress he endured during the kidnapping. Also known as zoster or herpes zoster, shingles is a painful skin rash caused by the varicella zoster virus, which also causes chickenpox.

Symptoms of shingles may include fever, headache, chills, and upset stomach, but can also affect the eye and cause loss of vision, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
