This 123-Pound Swedish Model Was Told She's Too Big To Be In The Modeling Industry; You Be The Judge
I don’t know about you, but the last thing on my mind after taking one look at Agnes Hedengård was “Too Big For The Industry.” Alas, I am not a big wig in the modeling industry who, according to Hedengård, informed her that the 19-year-old model’s backside and hips would prevent her from ever booking another job. At 5-foot-11, 123 pounds, with a 35-inch hip, it’s scary to think what the modeling industry has to say about women bigger than Hedengård.
“I can't get booked for any jobs, or I don't get enough to make a living out of it,” Hedengård told the Swedish women's magazine Veckorevyn. “Modelling is more like a part-time job now. I gave [the modelling world] a shot for a year — I barely ate and counting calories was a daily chore. I have anorexic thoughts, but I fight them constantly. It's hard, but if you put all the energy you normally would waste on these eating disorder-thoughts toward instead loving yourself, the bad comments are like water off a duck's back.”
By the way, Hedengård is sporting a body mass index (BMI) OF 17.5. For those of you keeping score at home, the World Health Organization (WHO) considers 18.5 – 24.50 to be the normal BMI range. So that means higher-ups from the modeling industry are actually telling an underweight model that her “butt is too large” and her “hips are too wide.”
