In a new video warming hearts all over the internet, 11-month-old Piper Verdusco sees her parents for the first time after trying on a new pair of glasses. According to her mother, Jessica Sinclair, the precious Cincinnati baby was very far-sighted, but her face lit up when she was finally able to see the world clearly.

The video, which Sinclair posted to Facebook on June 6, has generated over 18 million views and 270,000 shares. Sinclair says it all started when Piper was taken to the pediatrician because she was not yet crawling.

“They thought she might have astigmatism,” Sinclair told ABC News. “She didn’t, but she’s extremely far-sighted and needed glasses.” Sinclair added that doctors found her daughter is +7.00 in one eye, and +5.00 in the other.

After picking up Piper’s custom-made, pink glasses, the family decided to go out to dinner. After a brief struggle to put them on, Piper broke out into a huge smile when seeing her mom through her new lenses. Her father, Andrew Verdusco, quickly calls her name, and Piper gives her dad the same look of elation upon seeing him clearly for the first time.

“You can hear Andrew laughing but what you can’t see is I was choking back tears of joy that she could see the world the way it was meant to be,” says Sinclair. “It was a fantastic moment to witness.”

Commenting on the overwhelming response she has received toward her video, Sinclair is both amazed and hoping to spread the message that toddlers should get their eyes examined. “I’m totally blown away,” she said. “I’m happy and I want to get awareness out there for infants to get their eyes checked, but it’s just totally blown me away that it’s gone so far.”

Her parents say that after a month with glasses, Piper has finally started crawling, and is doing “really well.” She has been wearing her new glasses a lot now but her mother says that “she still likes to take off the glasses and try to chew on them.”
