After struggling with infertility for two years, a Texas couple is welcoming all-girl quintuplets — yes, five girls all at once — for the first time in the world since 1969, and the first time in the U.S. ever.

According to the Woman’s Hospital of Texas, the quintuplets were born to Danielle and Adam Busby. The couple used intrauterine insemination (IUI) fertility treatment for the quints as well as their first daughter, Blayke. IUI involves placing sperm inside the woman’s uterus in order to boost the number of sperm that reach the fallopian tubes and thus increase the chance of fertilization. Ultimately, the sperm must reach the egg on its own, but IUI gives it a little boost.

“We are so thankful and blessed and I honestly give all my credit to God,” Danielle Busby said. The couple has named their new baby girls Olivia Marie, Ava Lane, Hazel Grace, Parker Kate, and Riley Paige.

According to the hospital, all five of the girls were born healthy and strong, a rarity for quintuplets.

“They were all in the appropriate weight range for their gestational age, which is due to their mother’s excellent efforts to have the healthiest pregnancy possible,” Dr. Jayne Finkowski-Rivera, the hospital’s medical director, told ABC News. “They have made a strong start in life, and we are excited to watch them grow and mature.”

While the Busbys' story is certainly a happy one, the history of quintuplets in the world isn’t always so lighthearted. Many times, quintuplets don’t survive past infancy. The first identical quintuplets to survive past infancy were the five Dionne girls, who were born in Canada in the 1930s, but their life story was a tragic one. The first set of quintuplets in the U.S. were the Kanouse quints, who were born in Wisconsin in 1875. They were all boys, but didn’t survive. Last year, another Texas woman gave birth to premature quintuplets — but those included four girls and one boy.

Danielle and Adam Busby, meanwhile, continue to be busy with their jam-packed schedule of dealing with their new infants. Read more about their updates on their blog.
