Contrary to popular belief, it’s okay to wear makeup daily. It’s something that’s a part of many people's regular routines, whether they use it to cover their blemishes, enhance their features, or just to be creative. But those who practice the art daily still need to be careful — if you’re going to wear makeup, look for the brands with ingredients that won’t harm your skin.

“Unless you have some sort of skin issue, it’s okay to wear makeup everyday,” Dr. Lindsey Bordone, a dermatologist at Columbia University Medical Center in New York, told Medical Daily.

She also advises patients to be wary of natural-sounding ingredients in their makeup products. “A lot of natural brands have become popular because they have botanicals like sunflower and aloe in them. However, just because it has a plant in it doesn’t mean it's better (for) you,” said Bordone.

In some cases, people can develop an allergy to the natural ingredient; that’s why Bordone says it’s important to read the label and look for products that work best for your skin type.
