Psoriasis is a widespread skin condition that causes skin irritation and redness Psoriasis results from an abnormal process in which new skin cells are made faster than old skin cells are cast off. Psoriasis is a persistent, long-lasting (chronic) disease. It affects 2 to 2.6 percent of the United States population, or between 5.8 and 7.5 million people.
