Asthma Definition
Asthma is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the airways characterized by shortness of breath and difficulty breathing. It is a common disease that can occur at any age but most frequently happens during childhood and can continue into adulthood. More than 6 million children and 22 million adults in the U.S. have the condition, according to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute. Asthma affects more than 5% of the population of the US, including children.
