Whoopi Goldberg, the 58-year-old actress and comedian, has signed up to write a bi-monthly marijuana column for The Cannabist, a news and culture site for The Denver Post.

Her articles will focus on legalized recreational cannabis. Goldberg’s very first piece appeared this Thursday, in which she exalted the use of her vaporizer, which she calls “Sippy,” and its ability to cure her glaucoma-induced headaches. She packs her vape pen with weed and then takes small “sips” of it, which provide her with pain relief but don’t get her high, she writes.

“These glaucoma-induced headaches come on like freight trains — like, BOOM, my head starts hurting, my eyes start bugging, my whole body starts to tense up,” Goldberg writes. “But then I find [my sippy pen], and it relaxes everything and calms everything. It helps my head to stop hurting, and with glaucoma your eyes ache, and she takes the ache out. It’s wonderful.”

She continues: “The high is different, too. It feels like a gentle, warm breeze at the beach. It’s like someone undoing a vise grip, very slowly. It’s not overpowering — and I’m certainly not looking for that high high. I’m looking for relief.”

In the column, Goldberg will write more about her personal experiences with marijuana and how using it medicinally has helped her.
