Best Time To Take A Shower — Morning Or Evening?

Most of the time, people would say that taking a cold shower in the morning is a great way to start the day. However, there are also those who prefer taking a shower in the evening. So, which of these is much more preferable and beneficial?

If we are talking about the sleeping benefits that are brought to us by showering, Elizabeth Culnan, Ph.D., Postdoctoral Fellow in Behavioral Sleep Medicine in Rush University Medical Center, shares that "showering or taking a bath prior to bedtime can help improve sleep quality and help you to fall asleep faster.”

In addition, she also claims that timing is a critical aspect to all of these. Showering two hours before bed will warm your body. It will also allow you to experience a much more relaxing sleep because it puts your body in a temperature that promotes sleep.

Nighttime showers can also be beneficial at times when the climate is warm. Mia Finkelston, MD, shares.“In hotter weather, it may be difficult to get the natural drop in body temperature needed for good sleep – that’s where the shower or bath can help.”

As for morning showers, these can also present a number of health benefits for the individual. The act of taking showers in the morning has already become engraved into most people’s morning routine that it tends to wake the brain and inform it that it’s the start of a new day.

Also, naturopathic doctors claim that our ancient ancestors have followed a certain practice called hydrotherapy. This is an alternation between hot or warm and cold showers to awaken your system, increase blood flow and further support your immune system.

Whether it is a long shower or a quick shower, a warm shower or a cold shower or even a morning shower or an evening shower,  the point is that there is no wrong time to take a shower.

The truth is that the details don’t matter that much. A shower will always have the ability to invigorate your senses. Of course, it’s also a matter of preference. If you’re still undecided, try taking both morning and evening showers to see which is beneficial for you.
