Body Reset Diet For Weight Loss: Does It Work?

Celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak conceptualized a 15-day regimen to reset metabolism in a short period of time. The idea behind this program is to motivate people with minor successes and to help them stick to a weight-loss plan for the long term.

Pasternak, who has personally trained the Kardashians and Lady Gaga, published a book titled “The Body Reset Diet: Power Your Metabolism, Blast Fat, and Shed Pounds in Just 15 Days” in 2013. The book delves into the dietary plan in detail which for the most part consists of smoothies and snacks.

It details recipes as well, which are published in the cookbook called "The Body Reset Cookbook". This way, Pasternak lays out the plan step-by-step and makes it easier for people to follow with minimal effort.

The foods allowed on the diet include: fish, lean meat, whole grains, high-fiber fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds, fat-free dairy, egg whites and poultry. Alcohol, sugary drinks, fried food, processed food and refined grains are strongly discouraged.

“The Body Reset Diet” includes three phases lasting for five days each that encourages the consumption of smoothies throughout the day for most meals in a phased out manner.

  • In phase one, dieters should drink three smoothies in place of breakfast, lunch and dinner. Two snacks are allowed on the diet every day for five days. Also, they should clock-in about 10,000 steps per day.
  • In phase two, eat two meals consisting of smoothies and no solid food at all. One solid meal is allowed at this point. Again, two snacks can be added to the daily diet. Apart from walking 10,000 steps every day, add five minutes of resistance training on three out of five days.
  • In phase 3, have one smoothie in place of one meal and then eat solid food for two meals. Then, you can incorporate two snacks per day into the diet as usual. Now, walk up to 10,000 steps and do five minutes of resistance training on four out of five days.

Altogether, the diet provides about 1,200 to 1,400 calories per day. Once all three phases are completed, have two cheat meals per week to indulge a few cravings.

Pros

Smoothies on the diet are to be made from a blending process rather than juicing ingredients. The former retains fiber and protein present in the food, contributing to fullness and satiety. The dietary plan encourages people to eat five meals a day, thus not leaving space for craving and cheating on the diet.

Cons

The diet can be perceived as restrictive and inflexible. It may also not be sustainable in the long term as the diet only provides meal plans for up to 15 days, thus risking slipping up after the period ends.
