Don't Have The Time For Long Games? Here Are Some You Can Finish In A Night

With the pandemic keeping everyone inside for the time being, a large number of Americans stuck inside their households have turned to video games in order to pass the time and entertain themselves. In fact, so many people have started gaming that the industry itself has gained its highest increase in sales and playtime ever.

The thing is, however, despite everyone being home, not a lot of us have the free time to spend a ridiculous amount of hours exploring game worlds, especially if we have kids or are currently working from our homes.

Thankfully, the video game industry is big enough that it can offer you a wide selection of games you can finish in a night or two so you can still balance your responsibilities. Here are some of our top picks for you:

  1. A Short Hike – You play an animal visiting his grandma in the countryside, and spend some time hiking in order to get a signal for your device. It’s charming, it’s fun, it’s heartfelt, and best of all, it’s a short and memorable experience.
  2. Outer Wilds – This one puts you in the helm of a spaceman placed in a dying solar system. The catch? You only get 22 minutes to explore and piece together what happened before a supernova kills everyone and re-sets the game. This one is best enjoyed in short bursts.
  3. Journey – Standing at the very top of great games that you can finish in a few hours, “Journey” is all about its own namesake, and the experience you get along the way. Get ready for stunning visuals and emotional music all throughout.
  4. Braid – This one is more puzzle-based, but can be finished in one evening if you really put your mind to it. Be warned, however, some of these puzzles are really nerve-wracking.
  5. Portal – An oldie but goodie. Everyone already knows how good “Portal” is, but if you haven’t tried it yet, now’s the perfect time. Expect physics-based puzzles and a gun that shoots portals.
  6. Firewatch – More of a walking simulator, this game puts you in the shoes of a fire lookout that’s investigating a mystery in the woods. The game is about isolation and loneliness, so be ready to get emotional.
  7. Inside – Seamlessly designed and thought-provoking, this atmospheric game explores conformity and individuality, and can be finished in a few hours. Warning: It gets crazy in the end.
  8. Undertale – One of the best indie games ever made, "Undertale" can be finished in a couple nights at best, and is the only RPG where you’re encouraged to not kill anyone. Expect tears, and an amazing story.
