5 Foods For Healthy, Glowing Skin

Everyone is obsessed with getting younger looking skin these days, but not all are aware that some foods could actually readily provide this. Many people opt for skincare products, thinking that applying something on the skin is much better than ingesting anything that could potentially improve the skin’s state.

Aside from nutritional supplements, there are certain foods that are proven to make the skin healthy and glowing. Reader’s Digest has compiled some of them and we’ve chosen to cover five of the most beneficial ones below.

Quinoa

The low-fat Peruvian seed hosts all nine essential amino acids. This is the reason why quinoa is considered a complete protein. A cup of this grain sufficiently provides eight grams of collagen-supportive protein and a bit of zinc.

Collagen is needed by the body, considering that it is the most abundant protein that is responsible for keeping the skin, hair and nails healthy. On the other hand, zinc helps with the conversion of amino acids to collagen.

Chickpea

This legume is known to contain high amounts of protein, as well as vitamins A and C, zinc and thiamine or vitamin B1. All of them are necessary for good health, but thiamine is the one that will bring a lot of benefits to the body since it promotes skin revitalization and wound healing.

Green Peas

While most vegetables are not considered as the best sources of protein, green peas are very different since they boast of high content of protein. One cup of these small spherical seeds already provides eight grams of protein.

However, it’s no secret that not everyone like eating green peas. But if you really want to get healthy and beautiful skin, then you just might want to put some of these seeds in your salad or soup. You may also blend some with fresh herbs to make a pesto for your pasta.

Bell Peppers

Bell peppers are excellent sources of many vitamins and nutrients. In fact, red bell peppers contain more than 100 percent of the body’s needed vitamin C. Generally speaking, the colorful fruits are rich in fiber and vitamin B6.

Vitamin C is an essential component of collagen production, so this is already one good reason why you should eat bell peppers. Additionally, they are also rich in carotenoids that are proven to help prevent wrinkles and increase blood circulation in the skin.

Chia Seeds

These seeds are all the rage these days in the weight loss community because of their high fiber content. However, chia seeds are also very rich in protein, and they contain omega-3 fatty acids, magnesium, zinc, vitamin E and many B vitamins, as well.

Because they are rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, chia seeds are deemed as one of the healthiest foods on the planet by many experts. When it comes to their good effects on the skin, these tiny black seeds are capable of addressing acne scars, keeping the skin radiant and fighting signs of aging.
