Let’s all admit it, working out is not always fun. If you’re already in your 40s or 50s and you haven’t consistently followed a daily routine, then there’s no way that you’re joining a gym this year and actually keep up. And that’s perfectly fine, trust us.

However, the simple fact is that the exercisers have all been exercising for the longest time and if you haven’t joined yet, then the possibility of joining later comes lower.

As such, most nonexercising people usually point to two reasons that stop them from hitting the gym: lack of interest and lack of time.

So is there a way to still get a decent workout?

Turns out, there is. And chances are, you are already doing these things. This is because according to a report published in British general medical journal BMJ, doing high-intensity incidental physical activity can easily give you the workout you need. So what do you need to do?

Well, for one thing, high-intensity incidental physical activity is just a fancy way of that you need to push yourself when you do things you normally do. This includes activities like going up the stairs, yard work, playing with children, mowing the lawn, organizing a room, scrubbing floors vigorously, shopping, housework and even taking a walk.

“My maximal effort isn’t going to be anywhere near the maximal effort of LeBron James. He’s going to have a much higher physical fitness capability. But we’re both pushing our bodies to new limits,” Hallie Zwibel, a doctor of osteopathic medicine and director of the Center of Sports Medicine at the New York Institute of Technology, said.

You don’t need to spend hours doing it too because doing three to five of these activities for 10 minutes most days can meet your physical activity requirements.

 There you go, no need for a gym. Just make sure that you’re always moving and pushing yourself in new ways.
