Humans Could Be In Galactic Zoo Being Watched By Aliens, Scientists Suggest

It is a long asked question if Earth is the only place in the whole universe to be hosting life. A group of researchers provided a new idea on why humans never saw any proof of alien existence despite decades of efforts to search the universe.

Some suggested that humans may be living in a vast computer simulation controlled by highly intelligent extraterrestrial life. But scientists from the Messaging Extraterrestrial Intelligence research organization said we are living in a real environment but still controlled by aliens.

METI scientists presented the idea at a conference in Paris last week, saying we have never seen aliens as they quarantined humans on Earth, which serves as a cage for a specimen in a galactic zoo, ScienceAlert reported Wednesday.

"This puzzle of why we haven't detected extraterrestrial life has been discussed often," METI director and astrobiologist Florence Raulin Cerceau said at the event at the science museum La cité des sciences et de l'Industrie. "But in this workshop's unique focus, many of the talks tackled a controversial explanation first suggested in the 1970s, called the 'zoo hypothesis'."

Aliens and The Galactic Zoo

MIT researcher John Ball first introduced the zoo hypothesis in a 1973 paper. He wrote that humans are potentially failing to find aliens because a superior life “have set us aside as part of a wilderness area or zoo."

Jean-Pierre Rospars, a researcher from the Institut national de la recherche agronomique in Paris, said the hypothesis suggests extraterrestrials imposed a “galactic quarantine” since they realized that interacting with humans “would be culturally disruptive for us to learn about them."

The galactic zoo is another response to the Fermi Paradox, which questions why humans never saw or heard anything from aliens despite countless stars roaming in and around our galaxy. Scientists also describe Fermi Paradox as the “Great Silence.”

Some scientists previously proposed that extraterrestrial life is being blocked by some kind of wall, or maybe they are all asleep or worse is that human existence caused the extinction of other life.

"Perhaps extraterrestrials are watching humans on Earth, much like we watch animals in a zoo," METI President Douglas Vakoch said. "How can we get the galactic zookeepers to reveal themselves?"
