This is a reaction of the immune system which destroys the ability to recognize that thyroid cells still form part of the body’s system. As a result, the immune system tends to remove these cells by perceiving them as threats.

Unhealthy Diet - Another cause of hypothyroidism is following an unhealthy diet. The body needs sufficient amounts of iodine and selenium that promotes better thyroid functions. When your body lacks these substances, you would be at higher risk of getting hypothyroid disorders. Selenium deficiency, for example, causes thyroiditis since lack thereof prevents the development of glutathione. This component controls inflammation and fights oxidative stress.

Hormonal Imbalance – This is a common condition experienced by pregnant women. They produce high levels of thyroid hormones then afterward a decline of the production would occur.
