LGBT Community ‘A Traitor’? Trans People Want To Return To Original Sex

Some members of the LGBT community are becoming uncomfortable not because of discrimination in the United Kingdom. Hundreds of young transgender people said they now want to return to their bioligical sex due to problems within the community.

Charlie Evans is one of the people who decided to detransition after years of defining herself as an opposite sex. The 28-year-old was born female but was identified as male for nearly 10 years.

Evans shared her story in 2018, which introduced a new issue among the LGBT community. To date, there is no data showing the satisfaction and life of people in their new gender.

But Evans said the number of young people seeking gender transition is high. After sharing her story to the public, she said several people approached her with the same problem and wanting to return to their original sex.

"I'm in communication with 19- and 20-year-olds who have had full gender reassignment surgery who wish they hadn't, and their dysphoria hasn't been relieved, they don't feel better for it," Evans told Sky News. "They don't know what their options are now."

A year after her decision, Evans said "hundreds" of transgender people have approached her seeking help. She said the majority of them were in their mid-20s, female, same-sex attracted and “often autistic.”

In her area of Newcastle in England, there were more than two dozen people considering a detransition. Evans cited that one girl with a beard told her that "she felt shunned by the LGBT community for being a traitor."

Another transgender who contacted Evans experienced issues within the community. The 21-year-old said she suffered from gender dysphoria and eating disorder before she returned to being female but did not get proper treatments.

"For everyone who has gender dysphoria, whether they are trans or not, I want there to be more options for us because I think there is a system of saying, 'okay here's your hormones, here's your surgery, off you go,'” she said. “I don't think that's helpful for anyone.”

To help trans people facing the same problem, Evans is establishing The Detransition Advocacy Network, a charity aimed at guiding members of the LGBT community in returning to their original sex.

The number of trans people planning to detransition is expected to continue increasing amid the growing number of people seeking gender identity services. Some members of the LGBT community also called for a research focused on gender transition.
