Don’t you just hate it when you want to wave your hands, but you are wearing a sleeveless outfit and you’re dying to hide your dark armpits? Well, you’re not alone in experiencing this. In fact, dark underarms are actually pretty common and it’s a struggle to find the right solution for them. 

But don’t you worry. There are ways to lighten your underarms fast. Below is a list of the five, not-so-secret solutions to whiten armpits quickly and the natural way. 

Turmeric

Aside from being a spice in the kitchen, turmeric can actually be used to get rid of dark underarms. It contains a compound called curcumin that is responsible for almost all of the health benefits turmeric offers to the body. But many may not be aware of curcumin’s ability to resolve hyperpigmentation and regulate melanin production. 

According to Alivebynature, curcumin has an effect on the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) secreted by the pituitary gland. It basically restricts the secretion so that stimulation of melanin production is lessened, and this leads to lighter skin. 

To make a turmeric concoction for your armpits, take some cold milk, about 5-6 tablespoons will do. Place in a bowl and add to it approximately 1 teaspoon of turmeric. Mix well until you no longer see powder lumps. Then just soak a cotton ball in the solution and apply it to your underarms. Leave it overnight and wash off the following day. Do this regularly and you are guaranteed to see results in just a week. 

Tomato and sugar

This combination sounds like a sweet treat, but it actually does wonders to dark underarms. Apart from its anti-inflammatory properties, tomato also has skin brightening properties and it is capable of detoxifying the skin as well. 

Sugar, on the other hand, is needed to help exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells, as per the Indian Spot. It’s no secret that sugar is used in many natural scrubs that are effective in clearing the skin and making it smooth again. This is the reasoning why sugar is used alongside tomato in this remedy. 

To make an underarm scrub, you will need to cut your tomato into thin slices first. The you either dip a slice into a bowl of sugar or just sprinkle it with sugar. Either way you get a sugar-coated tomato slice and that’s what you are going to gently rub on your armpits. Do so for a few minutes and rinse. 

Potato

Nope. We are not making fries. We’re just going to slice a potato and use it on the underarms to lighten this area. Candy magazine actually recommends this trick as an alternative to using lime that is very acidic and can readily cause burns. 

Potatoes have mild, acidic properties that are just tolerable to the armpits. Hence, one could say that the starchy, tuberous crop is a great bleaching alternative. To do this trick, you will need to thinly slice a potato after washing it. Then just get a slice and massage your armpits with it. Use as may slices as you want and just rinse after a few minutes. 

Cucumber

The fruit that you’ve come to love as a refreshing ingredient for drinks and meals also has a proven whitening effect to the skin. It is said to contain enzymes, natural salts and vitamins that promote cell growth and repair. It is also a good source of antioxidants and a good relaxant of muscles and nerves. 

A very common beauty remedy is putting slices of cucumbers on the eyes because cucumber helps reduce swelling and eliminates dark circles. The latter is the same mechanism that will work on dark armpits. Healthline says rubbing slices of cucumber on the dark areas of your armpits will do the trick. After 10 minutes, you may rinse your underarms with cool water. Do regularly to see excellent results. 

Coconut oil

Coconut oil has been proven to be very useful in many ways and one of them is serving as a natural remedy to lighten skin. This oil has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and moisturizing properties as well, so you are not just lightening your skin tone with it, you also improve the overall condition of the integument. 

According to DIY Remedies, coconut oil can prevent the accumulation of bad microbes on the skin and it can also detoxify skin pores, as well as eliminate underlying skin issues that are causing darkening. Its Vitamin E content and saturated fatty acids also nourish the skin, so it could easily heal scars and dark marks. 

There’s no need to prepare anything for this trick. All you need is a few drops of coconut oil that you will use in massaging your armpits. Do so for a couple of minutes on each armpit, then wash both sides with lukewarm water and a mild soap after 15 minutes. Do this two to three times a day for faster results.
