Men Who Go Under The Knife For Beauty Are More ‘Trustworthy,’ Study Claims

Plastic surgery has been gaining more attention today. In fact, the industry is booming that parents in one country are offering facial surgery as a graduation gift to their kids. That country is none other than South Korea. The rise of K-pop was accompanied by the growth of plastic surgery centers in the country.

Beauty has been part of the culture of Koreans and even the local industry. Many businesses even have standards in the job market, making physical appearance the top priority for employees.

In the music industry, many Korean stars already admitted to having something done on their face. Super Junior members Kyuhyun and Heechul reportedly underwent facial enhancements.

Plastic surgery is widely accepted across South Korea and the beauty trend is starting to gain attention in other countries as well as the scientific community because of its benefits.

Interestingly, a new study, published in JAMA Facial Plastic Surgery, showed that people tend to look at men who underwent cosmetic procedures as more likeable and trustworthy. Researchers found that facial enhancements could effectively change the perception of people, The Telegraph reported Thursday.

Facelift appears helpful for men to gain trust easily, while brow-lift, reduction of lower eyelid and and upper eyelid-lift are said to be effective in making a person more attractive.

Meanwhile, neck-lift could make a man appear more masculine, according to the study. However, the researchers noted the same effect on masculinity was not found in men who had changes on or around their face.

"It is really interesting that different anatomic areas of the face have varying degrees of contribution to overall personality perception,” lead researcher Michael Reilly said. "And it is also noteworthy that the study did not find a significant change in masculinity. Just one procedure, a neck-lift, was found to enhance that trait.”

For the study, the researchers gathered 24 men who underwent facial procedures at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. The team showed "before" and "after" photos of each participant to more than 150 people and asked to rate the man’s personality traits.

The observers rated aggressiveness, extroversion, likeability, risk-seeking, sociability, trustworthiness, attractiveness and masculinity. Results showed that upper eyelid procedures increased likeability and trustworthiness, while a brow-lift was associated with extroversion and risk-taking.

The researchers said that facelift increased their perception of likeability and trustworthiness. Meanwhile, a nose job improved their attractiveness.

Man Plastic surgery has been gaining more attention across the world not just from women but more men are trying the trend. Pixabay
