Paleo vs. Whole30: What’s The Difference Between These Two Eating Plans?

These days, both the paleo and Whole30 diets are equal in terms of popularity among health-conscious people.

And it’s rather easy to see why. For one thing, both promote minimally processed whole foods for their wide array of nutritional benefits, while also shying away from processed foods that are filled with salt, fat and sugars. Of course, same with most diet plans, both also promote weight loss in a healthy manner while also promising to improve your overall well-being.

What’s the difference between the two?

True to its name, the paleo diet follows the supposed eating patterns of our human hunter-gatherer ancestors, which is why it takes advantage of minimally processed foods. Additionally, it also encourages you to also consume organic products whenever it is possible.

Much like the paleo diet, the Whole30 diet is a month-long program that also promotes the eating of minimally processed foods, and promises weight loss and improved health. Furthermore, it also promises to reduce cravings, improve energy levels, improve sleep, identify food tolerances and even heighten athletic performance.

Both also limit your intake of legumes, grains and dairy, which can then lead to the calorie deficit that can help you lose weight.

However, the difference between the two starts with their implementation, even though both are similar in restrictions and health effects.

For example, the Whole30 diet aims to help you find out what your food intolerances are, leading you to cut out more foods. It also starts being less strict as time goes by, even letting you gradually reintroduce foods that have been cut out before. Furthermore, the diet plan lasts for a month initially, while the paleo diet is more long-term.

Furthermore, the paleo diet is also more lenient, even permitting small amounts of wine and chocolate every now and then to help you satisfy any cravings that haven’t been controlled yet. Unlike the Whole30 diet, its restrictions remain the same, regardless if you only follow it for a month or a year.
