Study Says Men Who Eat Nuts Everyday May Have Better Sex Life

Millions of men are estimated to have erectile dysfunction in the U.S. This condition is not life-threatening but may affect a man’s wellbeing. 

Sexual arousal for men is complicated. It requires the brain, emotions and properly working hormones, nerves, muscles and blood vessels.

Physical and psychological issues may make it difficult for men to have or maintain an erection. These issues can be a heart disease, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and mental health conditions, such as depression. 

The men who also frequently smoke cigarettes have high risk of erectile dysfunction. Such problem with sexual functions could then lead to stress, poor self-confidence and reduced interactions. 

However, lifestyle changes could help avoid erection problems and maintain one’s capability to enjoy intimacy. A new study shows that regular consumption of nuts can help enhance men’s sexual function. 

Researchers from Spain found that eating at least 60 grams of nuts a day boosts sexual desire and improves orgasm quality. The team suggested adding walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds to men’s daily diet. 

What made the findings, published in the journal Nutrients, more surprising is that nuts provided the same benefits even for men who had an unhealthy western diet.

The study supports previous research that suggested walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds could improve sperm quality. However, the earlier effort did not determine the effects of nuts on sexual function.

The latest study is the first to explore how nuts will affect men of reproductive age and their performance in the bed. The researchers gathered 83 men who were on a western diet.

All participants consumed more animal fats and less fruit and vegetables during the study. Researchers divided the participants into two groups, with one following normal western diet and the other adding 60 grams of nuts to their daily meals for more than 14 weeks. 

The participants were then asked to answer an internationally validated questionnaire about their sexual function after the study. Results showed that the additional nuts effectively improved their sexual desire and orgasm even on an unhealthy diet. 

Researchers noted more studies are required to better understand how nuts directly enhances sexual functions in men.
