Wash Your Face

The first tip is to always wash your face before hitting the sack. Many people in their 20s tend to forget about this especially after having a very busy day. Some would just rely on face wipes to do the job, but experts say it is best to really wash your face with water.

“Cleansing your face at night to wash away the dirt and grime from the day is important, as the polyaromatic hydrocarbons from air pollution can contribute to hyperpigmentation and premature aging,” board-certified dermatologist Keira Barr, MD, said. A water-based wash is necessary to really remove all the dirt and gunk from your face.

Drink Clean

Drinking alcohol is very common among people in their 20s. But experts warn that this habit can really ruin the chances of having beautiful skin. Esthetician Elle Feldman pointed out that consuming excessive alcohol is “not great for your complexion.”

She recommended having at least “three alcohol-free days” in a week and opting for natural wine. “[Wine]is less processed, with no added sugar or chemicals, so it’s better for you,” Feldman explained.

Don’t Forget Your SPF

Another tip is to use SPF sunscreen daily. The rays of the sun have been proven to be harmful to the human skin in the long run. People in their 20s typically have very active lifestyles so it is not uncommon for them to stay outdoors for long periods.

“By your 20s, your skin has already been greatly impacted by environmental assault, so incorporating habits that 'save face' for the long term is a good idea. Applying a moisturizer with a mineral-based sunscreen with at least SPF 30 daily is a good start,” Barr said.

Keep It Simple

With the numerous beauty products available in the market, it’s easy to get overwhelmed and buy a lot of things thinking that having more is better. The problem here is that putting more stuff on your face could increase the likelihood of experiencing breakouts and irritation.

Dermatologist Whitney Bowe, MD, said that it is best to choose a basic routine and stick to it. She also warned that you need to be careful in choosing the skin care products to use since some of them could excessively remove dead skin cells. After all, this layer of the skin also serves as a protective barrier.
