Viagra Causes Man To Lose Penis; Other ‘Side Effects’ Exposed

A man recently got his penis amputated due to the effects of Viagra. Doctors said the patient is just one of the hundreds of men who suffered from the drug’s serious side effects in the United Kingdom, such as heart problems, vision loss and painful erections.

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) in the U.K. said Viagra or its generic version sildenafil has been linked to 28 deaths over the past years, The Sun reported. Those who did not suffer the drug’s fatal effects were left with lifetime health problems.

There are nearly 280 cases of Viagra-linked issues since 2017. The list includes men who developed Peyronie’s disease, which makes penis bent or banana shaped when erect.

Priapism has also been common in the U.K. It causes painful and persistent erections after taking Viagra, Daily Star reported

The National Health Service (NHS) said that many of the men who suffered the side effects of the blue sex pill bought the product from unauthorized sellers. A survey found that “internet-bought medicines” caused problems in one in every four patients.

NHS also noted the products described as “natural” might still contain potentially harmful and unregulated ingredients, which could increase the risk of health problems in men.

Other Side Effects of Viagra

Pfizer noted in its website for Viagra that not all men should take the drug. The company said those who are allergic to sildenafil and those taking nitrates or guanylate cyclase stimulators should avoid the pill.

Viagra can affect how other medicines work and vice versa. Its common side effects are headache, flushing, abnormal vision, runny nose, back pain, dizziness and rash.

However, Pfizer admitted there are other rarely reported side effects of Viagra. Men may experience:

  • Priapism or persistent erection, which can permanently damage penis
  • Sudden vision loss or non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION)
  • Tinnitus or ringing in their ears
  • Hearing loss

If you experience any of these conditions after taking Viagra, you should immediately stop intake and consult a doctor. Pfizer also emphasized the importance of consulting a medical expert before taking Viagra to see how your body will respond to the drug.
