How To Whiten Teeth Fast? 5 Natural Ways To Get Pearly White Smile

Tired of seeing your yellowish teeth every time you check your smile in the mirror? Or, are you reluctant to grin or laugh in public for fear of raised eyebrows? Don’t you worry because there are actually ways to bring back the “white” on your teeth and restore your bright smile.

Teeth whitening has always been the goal of many. In the U.S. alone, people spend billions of dollars on teeth whitening products. And you can’t blame them because having a pleasing smile makes a big difference at the workplace and in finding relationships.

But teeth whitening products and services aren’t always the best options. Aside from their high costs, there are risks involved for they mostly contain peroxide and other chemicals that can be dangerous in the long run. According to Delta Dental, teeth whitening products can cause sensitivity and even damage the roots of the teeth.

Fortunately, there are natural ways for you to get rid of that unwanted coloration that may have turned your smile yellowish or even darker. Check out the five simple and natural ways we found that could help you achieve that pearly white beam.

1. Brush teeth with baking sodaYou’ve probably seen this on social media and might have heard it from a friend. And it’s true. Brushing your teeth with baking soda does work in whitening your smile. It’s a mild abrasive agent that works effectively against surface stains, plaques, and it even prevents discoloration. It also supports good oral hygiene, according to FabHow

To use this, you need to mix water with baking soda and form a runny paste. Then you simply put some paste on your toothbrush and carefully brush your teeth for about 2 minutes. When rinsing, be sure to remove all traces of baking soda from your mouth. Do this once a week to achieve and maintain the desired results.

2. Try oil pullingHealthline recommends this traditional Indian folk remedy since it not only helps prevent discoloration, but it also removes bacteria in the mouth and reduces the chances of plaque-formation. If you are going the traditional route, then you should know that Indians used sunflower or sesame oil to do this method. But if you want a more pleasant experience, then you should just use coconut oil for its palatable taste. Plus, coconut oil has been proven to work wonders, like killing bacteria and reducing inflammation.

To do this method, you will need 1 tablespoon of coconut oil. Place this in your mouth and do a push-and-pull motion with your tongue, so the oil can go through your teeth several times. Do this for 15-20 minutes before spiting the oil out. It could be tiring, but you’ll surely likely the benefits this method has.

3. Wash mouth with apple cider vinegarApple cider vinegar has been very useful as a natural cleaning product inside the house. It is used by many as a disinfectant, too. But did you know that this can also be a good teeth whitening solution and a promoter of overall mouth hygiene?

Apple cider vinegar has a pH between 2.5 and 3.0 because it contains malic acid and acetic acid. Such acids can erode the enamel on your teeth, so proper precautions should be taken. Pittsford Dental Clinic says it’s best to dilute five parts of water for every part of this vinegar. Once done preparing the solution, all you need to do is to use it as a mouthwash a few times per week.

4. Use orange and lemon peelsThere have been plenty of anecdotal evidence to prove that orange and lemon peels can whiten teeth. The premise of this method is simple. Since the peels contain citric acid and limonene, rubbing their white part against the teeth can produce excellent results. Limonene is actually used in many teeth whitening products.

A 2016 study also backs this method. Researchers experimented on the citric acid content of orange peels and they found out that it really does a fine job in whitening the teeth. They also noted that the active compound in the peels has antibacterial, antifungal and anti-inflammatory properties. Therefore, you don’t just brighten your smile with this method; you also improve your overall health.

5. Brush with activated charcoalThis method has been making rounds online mostly because many find it messy yet super effective in cleaning the teeth and whitening them almost instantly. Activated charcoal or activated carbon has many applications because of its adsorptive property. But it has gotten even more popular ever since beauty influencers raved about its miraculous effect on yellowish teeth.

There’s no formal evidence to prove that activated charcoal does whiten teeth. However, “The Dental Diet” author, Dr. Steven Lin, has observed that activated carbon is capable of absorbing plaque and other compounds that tend to stain teeth. It binds to toxins, so that they can be washed off easily when rinsing the mouth after brushing the teeth with activated charcoal.
