A dying woman, Patricia Cudd, of Fort Collins, Colo., is reaching out to the public in hopes of finding a home for her pit bull mix, Sherlock. Cudd was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer last August and wishes that someone would adopt her dog before her time comes.

"He's my best friend," Cudd said through tears, 9News reported. As of Tuesday, more than 400 people had emailed Cudd, and 150 had called ever since 9News first aired her story. Volunteers will be helping Cudd to sift through all the responses to find a new owner.

Sherlock was rescued from a shelter, and Cudd grew so close to him that she’s having a hard time letting him go. "I want someone else to love him as much as I do because I can't run with him anymore," Cudd said. "He's taught me to have fun! To just plain have fun. To go outside, look at the sun, and enjoy life.”

Even though he is a pit bull mix, Cudd says that he is one of the best animals you’ll meet. "He's such a great animal! Just magnificent," she said.

If you would like to adopt Sherlock, please contact desk@9news.com, and they will pass along the information to Cudd.
