As hard as it is to watch the beginning of this video, the end could be the most endearing and heart-warming 40 seconds you’ll find on the deep, dark Internet. Not to mention definitive proof that dogs really are man and woman’s best friend. The woman in this video, Danielle Jacobs, suffers from Asperger’s. She is in the middle of what she refers to as a “meltdown,” and her trusty canine companion Samson is trying desperately to get her out of it.

“This is what having Asperger's is like,” Jacobs explained in the video’s description. “Please no negative comments. This really happened and it's not easy to open myself and share what it's like on a daily basis. This is what's considered a meltdown. Yes, Samson is alerting. I trained him to alert to depressive episodes and self harm, not both, but he alerted. It appears the response is late, but it's actually supposed to be as I'm coming out of the meltdown, as I tend to have a panic attack after.”

Asperger syndrome is considered an autism spectrum disorder that causes severe social, communication, and behavioral challenges. Since children with Asperger’s tend to develop anxiety or depression as they enter young adulthood, violent outbursts and self-harm are all too common. Service dogs like Samson are trained to identify these symptoms and alert someone while remaining by their owner’s side, something that Samson displayed with flying colors.
