It’s no doubt one of the catchiest — and most educational — musical tributes to menstruation ever made.

This past Friday, the Swedish children’s show Barnkanalen debuted a song intended to dispel the stigma surrounding menstruation, recruiting the help of popular YouTube personality Alex Hermansson, 23. Hermansson, who has hosted previous segments, along with the help of dancing tampons and spattered blood, cheerfully reminds the presumingly teenage audience that periods, known as "mens" in Swedish, are just a normal rite of passage.

“Sing and be glad — tampon and pad. Dance and be free — go to PE!” one bar of the song’s lyrics, thankfully subtitled in English, read. “Drippity drop, droppity drop. Here it comes and you’re on top!”

The song, much like the show’s previous viral hit on the wonder of genitals, is as tongue-in-cheek as it is earnest and unafraid to be honest. There’s even a short rap segment that, of course, extorts would-be menstruators to cuddle up and dig into some ice cream when Aunt Flo comes visiting.

“You should be able to talk about the most natural thing, as half the world’s population is involved,” Petter Bragee, head of programing at SVT, the public service broadcaster that airs Barnkanalen, told Swedish paper The Local.
