We’ve all heard the term “no pain, no gain,” but this just seems downright dangerous. If you’re struggling to find enough motivation during your workouts or feel spanking, flogging, and bootlicking is the key to reaching your fitness goals, schedule an appointment with personal trainer/dominatrix Snow Mercy, whose S&M-themed workouts are all the rage in L.A. following the highly anticipated release of Fifty Shades of Grey. So move over, Crossfit and HIIT. “Fetish fitness” could be the next workout trend.

“Five years ago, my business and what I do was in the closet, but because of the success of Fifty Shades of Grey, I’m no longer closeted and people are a lot more willing to talk about S&M,” Mercy told the NY Daily News. “Once, the thought of this would be frowned upon, but thanks to the Fifty Shades books, this lifestyle choice has become less closeted and more normal. The film’s success also shows that women and men are willing to seek out their most erotic side.”

While run of the mill gym-goers are busting their humps on the squat rack or treadmill, Mercy’s students are performing dumbbell curls while crammed in a cage, or finishing their last set of pushups in hopes of earning a highly coveted reward: a spanking. While many people may find spanking as a reward or flogging for encouragement a bit unorthodox, Mercy says her clients are free to be themselves in her dungeon and her version of encouragement only “makes them work harder to get more treats.”

“I have clients here who would never step foot in a gym because of the stigma they would feel being stared at by all those hard-core workout people, or just not be motivated in that environment,” Mercy added. “With me in the dungeon, they can dress and act how they want and there is no judgment.”
