Celine Dion helps launch a six-hour telethon on Sunday night as a pack of entertainment stars lend their talents to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association's mission to find a cure for the various groups of crippling diseases related to muscular dystrophy.

The six-hour performance-filled and donation appealing event will notably be without longtime host Jerry Lewis. It begins at 6 p.m. Easter Time and ends at Midnight.

The event this year will be much shorter than previous 21-hour telethons.

Among the other performers spread out throughout the telethone will be Darius Rucker, Lady Antebellum and Jennifer Lopez.

The MDA seeks to cure muscular dystrophy, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), and related diseases.

The organization provides health care and support services, advocacy and education.

The organization funds hundreds of research projects, maintains a network of affiliated clinics and helps coordinate hundreds of support groups for families affected by neuromuscular diseases.
