The heir to the Saudi throne, Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, died in a New York hospital on Saturday.

Reports said he was battling cancer.

The Sultan’s body will be flown back to Saudi Arabia and is scheduled for burial on Tuesday, according to CNN.

President Barack Obama extended his condolences in a released statement, saying that Abdulaziz was “a strong supporter of the deep and enduring partnership between our two countries.”

The Crown Prince had been serving as the nation's defense minister

With the death, King Abdullah’s brother Nayef is likely to be his successor.
