Curtis Jackson, better known by his rap name “50 Cent,” has an explanation for why he threw such a left-heavy opening pitch at the New York Mets game against the Pittsburgh Pirates: He had an injury from masturbating. The Queens’ king of rap claims he missed home plate by several feet because of a “skeletal-muscle injury” on his left shoulder.

Jackson was asked during a Reddit “Ask Me Anything” session yesterday, where a user unsurprisingly asked, “What happened on that pitch?”

His answer was explicitly simple: “I have a skeletal muscle injury on my left shoulder from excessive masturbation so take it easy lol.”

Quite the contrary to the anti-masturbation stance he took two years ago, when he said via tweet, “Masturbation is a sin you stop right now fool!!! Lol God is watching you#SMS” and along with it, he provided a four-step plan for anyone who is trying to quit the sexual habit.

50 Cent’s Steps to Stop Masturbating via Twitter:

“Step 1. To avoid the urge to masturbate stop going to porn sites.”

“Step 2. Make a conscious decision not to turn your head after people walk by you.”

“Step 3. Do not go to strip clubs.”

“Step 4. Do not look at lust-filled magazines.”

Is abstinence from masturbation healthy though? In general, the medical community considers masturbations to be a harmless and natural behavior for both men and women. According to WebMD, in moderation, it can become a part of a normal sexual routine that doesn’t cause physical injury to the body. Some cultures and religions consider masturbation to be sinful, which may be why there’s a stigma and sense of shame surrounding the sexual act.

Pitching coaches have been rumored to warn their players not to masturbate before games in risk of injuring their throwing arm. According to the Encyclopedia of Sports Injuries and Medicine, masturbation can drain energy levels for athletes, which is why it’s used to attain a relaxed state before competition. However, it has not been scientifically proven to affect athletic performance in any way.

Jackson’s “skeletal muscle injury” usually occurs from a contact sport, such as hockey, or an exercise-induced injury that includes strains, contusions, or detachments. Muscle weakness, swelling, constant pain, and loss of muscle function are some of the symptoms associated from the injury, according to Livestrong.com

After the embarrassing throw that was shared throughout numerous social media platforms, Jackson told Rolling Stone, “Look, I’m not a professional baseball player and won’t be any time soon. I’m a musician.” He then told them that he “did practice before going out there and it went great, all strikes!”
