Could White House 'Jesus' Shooter be a Paranoid Schizophrenic?
The 21-year- old man who calls himself the modern day “Jesus” that’s accused of opening fire on the White House, is believed to have a possible case of paranoid schizophrenia, but has yet to be treated.
“I was sent here from God to lead the World to Zion,” said Oscar Ortega-Hernandez in a 20 minute video auditioning for the Oprah show that Idaho TV station KBOI posted.
In the video Ortega wore a black suit with rosary beads around his neck. He has long dark hair and a beard, similar to some illustrations of Jesus. Ortega claimed that he is indeed, the modern day Jesus.
“It’s not just a coincidence that I look like Jesus,” he said.
“I am the modern day Jesus Christ that you all have been waiting for.”
Ortega stressed that the end of the world is near and that marijuana is saving lives.
After stating the notion that, “the best things in life are free,” Ortega said “God gave us everything to live and enjoy life, like food to fuel, water to hydrate, sex for fun, horses for long term transportation, and marijuana to inspire and thrive for bigger and better things.”
He compared the government to “our parents,” and said that people in government follow the plan to “do as I say not as I do.”
Ortega continued to praise marijuana and spoke about the impact it can bring to the world, endorsing the use of toilet paper made from hemp as opposed to toilet paper made from trees.
After those statements, he said he was totally sober “right now” and that he would willingly pass a drug test.
Ortega stressed that there is still so much more that God needs him to express to the World.
Before Ortega was arrested, a U.S. Park Police crime bulletin stated that he is known to have a mental health condition and that "Ortega should be considered unstable with violent tendencies."
However it was not clear how that conclusion was reached other than the belief of those around him based on Ortega’s words and actions.
Dr. Douglas Cohen, Psychotherapist from Washington D.C. told Medical Daily that although it’s not possible to diagnose someone without a complete in person evaluation, based on the little that he has seen in the news, that Ortega “is most likely a paranoid schizophrenic.”
Dr. Cohen said that the use of marijuana triggering such mental illnesses is “extremely unlikely.”
However, he said that it is also possible but less likely that Ortega is depressed with psychosis or that he is having a drug induced psychosis.” But if he had to bet he “would bet on paranoid schizophrenic.”
Ortega was arrested on Wednesday on charges of attempting to assassinate the President by firing nine rounds at the White House with an AK-47.
President Barrack Obama, who Ortega believes to be the “Antichrist” and First Lady Michelle Obama were in California on their way to the APEC Summit in Hawaii during the shooting.
If convicted, Ortega may be sentenced to life in prison.
