The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has recently approved a device designed to treat a bulge in the largest abdominal blood vessel, the Endurant AAA Stent Graft system from Medtronic. The device is made up of a fabric tube of which a flexible wire frame was sewn inside it.

The device is meant to reduce the pressure built up inside the aneurysm to keep it from rupturing. This is made possible by inserting the device in the blood vessels of the groin area, through catheters, and then implanting it on the weakest part of the aorta.Aneurysm is a condition in which a part of a blood vessel swells and could possibly rupture.

This condition occurs in more than a million individuals. It is usually asymptomatic, and thus around 70-90 percent dies due to ruptured aneurysm.
