Dark circles around the eyes are caused by several factors, starting with lack of proper sleep or fluid retention that causes puffiness under the eyes. Dark circles can also be an inherited condition where people with a particular skin kind can pass on the symptoms to the next generation.

In addition, dark circles are also indicative of aging. We present a list of eight steps that will help you reduce the prominence of dark circles. Try these recipes at home and see if you can make difference on the dark circles around your eyes:

1) Cucumber juice: Crush cucumber and use cotton pads dipped in it on your eyes for 15 minutes. The effect is cooling and relaxes your eyes.

2) Potato peels: Apply peeled or grated potato over the dark circles of the eye. Keep it there overnight. You can try this recipe at least three times a week to ward off dark circles around the eyes.

3) Almond oil: Massaging eyes with almond oil at bed time daily in two weeks will help you remove the dark circles.

4) Lime juice: Apply a mixture of equal parts of tomato and lime juice every morning, after washing your face. Wash it off after half an hour.

5) Hot and cold compresses: Press hot and cold compresses alternatively under your eyes for 10 minutes. Then apply a teaspoon of almond oil mixed with half teaspoon of lime juice on the dark surface every night before going to bed.

6) Fruits and veggies: Include as much fruit and vegetables in your diet plan as possible.

7) Water: Drink plenty of water. Water helps eliminate toxins from the body and makes it lustrous.

8) Reading: Try to avoid reading for long hours especially at night.
