While the most popular reason why one might want to go on a diet might be due to weight loss (along with exercise), the truth that some people who are already fit enough understand that staying fit is something that should be a part of your daily routine.

And if you do not know where to start, you have to understand that any balanced diet should consist of five food groups such as:

1. Dairy

2. Protein, nuts, meats

3. Vegetables and fruits

4. Fats, oils and sugars

5. Grains, bread and pasta

This is also known as the food pyramid that you can look for as well, where one has to eat sparingly when it comes to some of these groups while certain groups mandatorily being a large part of their diet.

And so here are a set of rules by which one can understand which groups to be careful of, and which ones to eat a lot of (in maintaining a balanced diet):

Tip #1: Eat two to three servings of fruits every day while also eating three to four servings of (larger) vegetables a day.

Tip #2: The limits for grains should be anywhere between six to eleven servings a day.

Tip #3: When it comes to vegetables, one should choose fresher vegetables and prepare them in a lightly cooked and steamed manner for consumption.

Tip #4: Milk, yoghurt and cheese should be consumed as much as possible for healthy teeth and bones.

Tip #5: Natural foods, vitamin supplements, minerals and nutrients should be inculcated in your daily diet.

Tip #6: Choose antioxidant foods that will eliminate free radicals from your body.

Tip #7: Eat small portioned servings of lean poultry, pork, eggs, beef and fish as well as foods such as beans, tofu and nuts as well.

Tip #8: Avoid sugars (honey is a good substitute!), baked goods and foods made from refined flour.
