U.S. Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, who survived a gun attack in January, was cheerful and speaking clearly in her first TV interview with ABC's Diane Sawyer.

Giffords, 41, sat with her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly for the interview.

"How do you feel?" Sawyer asked.

"Pretty good," Giffords replied, according to a preview of the interview which will air Monday.

"Is it painful?" Sawyer asks.

"It's difficult," says Giffords. "Difficult."

Giffords survived serious head injuries from an attack during a political event outside a supermarket in Tucson, Arizona on January 8. Six people were killed and 13 wounded.
