Being told your life is going to end in a matter of weeks may be the most hopeless moment someone can experience, especially when that life has only lasted 14 years. Unless of course that person is Katelyn Norman whose doctors told her the bone cancer she's been living with has spread to the point that there is nothing further they can do.

Two years ago when Katelyn was just in the eighth grade her physicians diagnosed her with osteosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer that starts in the bones eventually making its way to the body's major organs.

After receiving the news of her impending fate Katelyn did the unthinkable, forgot about it and decided to focus on how "she" wanted to spend her final days. In a show of support, her community in LoFollette, Tenn. has rallied around her to help her check as many items on her bucket list off as possible.

First big ticket item on the list, an impromptu prom with the appropriate theme "Katie in the Sky with Diamonds" where over 1,000 people lined the streets with candles as her limo pulled up. "I'm ecstatic. I can't wait," Katelyn told WATE-TV with a smile on her face. "I just can't wait to go."

Probably the biggest supporter through Katelyn's ordeal is her best friend Brandon Huckaby, 16, whom she traveled with supporting the Gay Lesbian and Straight Education Network, GLSEN. Brandon told ABCNews, "I'm losing my best friend and there's not really anything I can do about it so when I figured out there was something I could do, I pretty much put my foot to the ground and said, 'You know what? This is happening. I'm getting this done.'"

Katelyn's high school nurse, Sharon Shepard, also told ABC "her life will never be the same" after meeting the 14-year-old. Shepard said, "'Katelyn will change your life. You'll never be the same. She will make an impact on you. She's a jewel."

The other items on Katelyn's bucket list include a trip to Italy, learning to drive a car, one last kiss, a Marilyn Monroe piercing (piercing on the upper lip) and one day with each of her three siblings.
