Former NBA star Daron "Mookie" Blaylock is listed in critical condition after a devastating head-on collision between his SUV and another car on Friday evening outside of Atlanta, Ga.

Blaylock, 46, is said to have been taken off of life support due to a subtle improvement in his health, but remains in "guarded but critical condition" at Atlanta Medical Center.

There were two passengers in the car with the former NBA All-Star when he crashed. Monica Murphy, his female passenger, died just after 10 p.m. on Friday due to injuries she sustained in the collision. Her husband, Frankie Murphy, sustained a broken ankle in the crash and was released from the hospital.

Jonesboro, Ga. Police Chief Franklin Allen said that Blaylock had a history of seizures and that police are investigating whether it was a seizure that caused the crash.

Blaylock played 13 seasons in the NBA with the New Jersey Nets, Atlanta Hawks, and Golden State Warriors. The Hawks released a statement:

"We are saddened to hear of the accident today involving Mookie Blaylock and the Murphy family and the ensuing passing of Monica Murphy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of all involved."
