Pregnancy is one of the most delicate stages in a person’s life, to say the least. And if one does not take care of their nutritional needs, not only will they suffer but this will impact the child as well. On the other hand, if you do take care of your body, you will find that your baby will get the nutrition it needs, and this will result in a healthy pregnancy.

So, here are some nutrition tips that will result in a healthy pregnancy:

Tip #1: Just like most humans, babies will get all the nutrition that they need from a balanced diet, and so it is recommended that one eats well and in particular, keeping the suggestions made in food pyramid chart (or prescribed by your doctor) in mind.

Tip #2: Drink plenty of water. Most experts recommend at least 8 to 10 glasses of water a day that will keep your (and your baby’s) energy levels up. Even though water seems to be the best option, soups, decaf tea and fresh fruit juice can also help you in staying hydrated and energetic.

Tip #3: One of the most important recommendations (although this is indirectly related to nutrition) is the fact that women who are pregnant should stay active as much as possible during your pregnancy. This not decreases the risk of gestational diabetes but also the possibility of complications going forward. Ask your doctor if 30 minutes of exercise will be sufficient.

Tip #4: Avoid smoking and alcohol at all costs during this time as it can cause neurological and developmental problems with your baby. Limit caffeine as well.

Tip #5: While one should realize that it is important not to “eat for two” as is the general idea these days, it is important to take certain vitamins such as a daily prenatal vitamin with DHA. Eating fish with low mercury levels is a good idea as they are abundant in Omega-3 fatty acids which are beneficial for one when they are pregnant.
