Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul won 82 percent of the vote in a straw poll of Republican activists on Sunday, with his campaign manager the next closest competitor, Herman Cain, garnering less than 15 percent.

Iowa voters in Des Moines took part in the poll by the National Federation of Republic Assemblies Presidential Preference Convention.

“This contest, however, shows that Dr. Paul and his campaign have tremendous organization strength. Iowa voters are ready for when the opportunity to vote for Ron Paul arises, and today they have done just that quite decisively,” said Ron Paul 2012 National Campaign Chairman Jesse Benton in a released statement.

Paul also won a poll which allowed voters from outside the state to participate. Paul garnered 26 percent of the vote, followed by Cain at 25 percent.
