Experienced yoga practitioners can contort their bodies into various poses that may seem alien to people not so in tune with mind and body. The flexibility displayed by accomplished yogis is an interesting sight to behold, but imagine seeing what their skeletons look like in those same poses. Thanks to researchers from Hybrid Medical Animation, now you can.

“Instead of just creating a still image, however, we wanted to combine the beautiful moves of yoga with this new visual approach to bring the full human skeleton to life,” said the Hybrid research team. “Technical challenges included aspects such as achieving proper bone densities and representing actual bone marrow inside each individual bone.”

Using X-ray imaging, these animation experts worked with health care professionals to create a visual representation of the human skeleton performing various yoga poses. The result is a mesmerizing look into the positioning of every bone in the human body while engaged in a Downward Facing Dog.
