CVS said Wednesday it has launched a new service on its website designed to assist military service members, veterans and their families who need to transfer prescriptions to a pharmacy that lets them continue using their TRICARE prescription insurance coverage.

TRICARE is an Express Scripts insurance plan, and patients who had been filling their prescriptions at Walgreens need a new pharmacy after Express Scripts ceased in-network coverage of prescriptions filled at Walgreens starting with the new year.

"CVS is committed to helping TRICARE members on their path to better health, which is why we want to make it as easy as possible for members whose insurance may no longer be accepted at their current pharmacy to transfer their prescriptions to us," said Papatya Tankut, RPh, Vice President of Professional Pharmacy Services at CVS.

To transfer with the new service, patients just need the name of their medication, doctor's name, name and phone number of the pharmacy where the prescription was last filled, and the CVS location where the patients wants to pick up prescriptions.
