The ‘downward-facing dog’ takes on a literal meaning with Panchino the Chihuahua. His owner has taught the diminutive pooch how to practice yoga, in what is quickly becoming the cutest video on YouTube.

Doggie yoga — or “doga” — is not a new phenomenon. Metropolitan yoga studios from Chicago to New York have invited dogs to practice the spiritual stretching exercises since 2009.

But Panchino, like most dogs, stands out because of his degree of animal mimicry.

Dogs are particularly good at copying other animals, especially their owners. A study from earlier this year showed that some dogs spontaneously learn their owners’ movements and behaviors, suggesting that some canines can’t help but be 'copycats.' Dogs are also prone to yawning when their owners do, signaling a certain level of empathy.
