Hollywood actress Halle Berry, 47, gave birth on Saturday to her second child, a boy.

A publicist for the Oscar-winning star confirmed the birth at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, but gave no further details. Berry has a 5-year-old daughter, Gabriel Aubry, with an ex-boyfriend with whom she engaged in public custody battle settled two years ago.

The boy is the first child for Berry’s partner, French actor Olivier Martinez. The couple married in June.

Berry began her career as a fashion model after winning several beauty contests, placing first runner-up in the Miss USA pageant and sixth in the Miss World Pageant in 1986. In 1992, she established herself in Hollywood in the film Boomerang, which led to roles in The Flintstones in 1994 and Bulworth in 1998.

She is best known for winning an Academy Award for best actress in 2002 for her starring role in Monster’s Ball, becoming the first and only African American woman so far to win the distinction for a leading role. Afterward, Berry maintained her acumen in the American film industry with roles as Storm in the X-Men film series, Swordfish, and as a Bond girl in Die Another Day.

With humor and class, Berry also accepted a Golden Raspberry Award for Worst Actress in 2005 for Catwoman, as one of the few winners to appear in person for the distinction.
