The coronavirus pandemic has caused all movie theaters across the country to close their doors and blockbusters-in-waiting to postpone their releases all the way until next year.

For movie buffs like you, this may seem like a dark time. (Getting yourself and others infected with the virus while in the cinema is a lot worse, though.) However, being on home quarantine and social distancing measures give you ample time and space to watch movies available either in DVD and Blu-Ray formats or on streaming services such as Amazon's Prime Video.

Whether for you or with the whole family, the following comedy movies will make you laugh out loud while on home quarantine:

1. Parasite

Bong Joon Ho's "Parasite" is sure to be your new favorite if you are into Asian -- specifically Korean -- movies and those that stimulate you intellectually and philosophically. Winner of 4 Academy Awards, including Best Picture, it tells the story of the wealthy Park and less-fortunate but street-smart Kim families.

2. Knives Out

Directed by Rian Johnson ("Brick," "Looper," "The Last Jedi"), "Kives Out" features an all-star cast, including Daniel Craig, Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. It tells the story of a detective who investigates the death of a patriarch of an eccentric, combative family.

3. Legally Blonde

Available on Amazon Prime Video, as well as in DVD and Blu-Ray formats, "Legally Blonde" featured Reese Witherspoon in her star-making role as Elle Woods, a blonde socialite who is determined to win back the heart of her sweetheart while studying at Harvard.

4. Step Dogs

"Step Dogs" is basically like "Home Alone," but instead of a young child, it is a pair of (talking) dogs who will have to save their owners' home from two bumbling thieves. Available on Prime Video and in DVD and Blu-Ray formats, you can watch it alone or, better yet, with a four-legged friend.

5. Shazam

Starring Zachary Levi ("Chuck," "Tangled") as the eponymous superhero, "Shazam" is a lighthearted entry to a setting as dark as the DC Extended Universe. The movie centers on a young teenage kid who, through an ancient wizard, can turn into a powerful adult version of himself just by shouting one word.

6. Long Shot

"Long Shot," starring Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron among others, is about a writer who connects with his former babysitter who is running for president. This lighthearted HBO Original comedy movie is currently available on Prime Video and in DVD and Blu-Ray formats.

7. Zombieland: Double Tap

If you like "Zombieland," then you would certainly like its sequel. "Zombieland: Double Tap" sees Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone once again causing hilarious mayhem across post-apocalyptic America as they face off against new kinds of evolved zombies and new human survivors.

8. Deadpool 2

Starring Ryan Reynolds once again as the eponymous comic anti-hero, this equally hilarious sequel to "Deadpool" sees the Merc with a mouth teaming up with time-traveling warrior Cable and other mutants to save a rebellious teenage mutant from the grip of a powerful foe.

9. Bridesmaids Unrated

From producer Paul Feig ("Knocked Up"), "Bridesmaids Unrated" stars Kristen Wiig as maid of (dis)honor Annie as she and four wild bridesmaids embark on an outrageous ride to their friend's wedding. Available on Prime Video, it can also be purchased in DVD, Blu-Ray and other formats.
